30 marathons in 30 countries before I turn 30
Born and raised in Atlanta, currently based in Paris.
Besides running, I enjoy spending hours cooking while listening to podcasts, dancing in the kitchen with my husband, and getting lost in my thoughts on the streets of any city.
My favorite food is Ethiopian and I am a self-proclaimed social introvert, who loves listening to life stories told by friends and strangers alike.
"I’ve participated in numerous marathons and fully believe in the potential of the running community to make an incredible impact on the planet. I firmly believe that our collective impact, linked together, can be exponentially more powerful and change the world we live in today. Whether it’s transforming education facilities in local towns and villages or encouraging dialogue between groups in conflict, I want Run to Reach to enforce change across the world."
Being on the move and experiencing other cultures in faraway places has been my constant source of energy and drive. I turned to running at a point when I felt completely lost – almost 6 years ago while living in Tokyo. My father had just passed away and moving to a different country where I knew no one, nor spoke the language, seemed like the perfect antidote to my painful grieving process. Running for hours on end became my therapy, form of deep meditation, how I was able to reach the euphoric feeling of self-empowerment and flow.
Soon after, I experienced a cosmic shift when I combined my new love of running with my passion for travel—diving deep into the exploration of other cultures while running the length (and depth) of each destination. My love for running in diverse nations over new terrains has undoubtedly contributed so much to my journey of personal development and self-discovery.
Yet, how could I in return leave a positive social impact on countries, equal to their effect on me? Powerfully inspired by Peter Singer’s talk on Effective Altruism, I have taken on a personal challenge to complete 30 marathons in 30 countries before I turn 30 (in June 2020!), supporting 20 local charities throughout this journey.
This marathon charity campaign extends far beyond marathon running. Run to Reach inspires and empowers every runner to change the world by connecting locally with the places they run in. Each of the 20 charities spotlighted have been selected based on their level of transparency and impact in the communities they help serve. I’ve participated in numerous marathons and fully believe in the potential of the running community to make an incredible impact on the planet. When the running community brings its momentum to charities, powerful change is possible.
“Please follow me and donate to this cause* (or me directly) as I run globally—across all seven continents—to reach locally, by supporting highly sustainable, impactful charities that work to improve the lives of our world community. @runtoreach”
