We are ALL collectively feeling our lives change around us. It’s hard even to think about our own futures in this moment, let alone those of others. But let’s try not to forget the power of helping strangers in need—especially those who are so often forgotten: women & children. For the 29th marathon of the Run to Reach journey, supporting the incredible efforts of the World Health Organization, I’ve decided to turn this race virtual.
And you’re invited—on May 24th, 2020, join me in running my first virtual marathon!
“Wait—how does a virtual marathon work?”
It’s simple! At any time on May 24th, wherever you are, take to the streets (or the treadmill, or the balcony) and run! If you can run the marathon, then more power to you—but feel free to run whatever distance suits your body and space limitations.
“What’s my part?”
As part of your participation, and in honor of these next 26 miles, I ask that you contribute $26 (or whatever amount you choose) to support the brilliant organizations of the Run to Reach project. They are still going strong, some even stronger, to support vulnerable populations in this moment of crisis. We cannot forget about them—or the individuals they support—as so much of the world’s activity slows down.
For each of these races, I’ve partnered with an organization in the country hosting the marathon. For Marathon #29, I’ll be supporting the strong work of the World Health Organization. With so many countries represented in this virtual marathon, it only makes sense to partner with a group whose work spans borders, reaching to every corner of the world to stop the spread of COVID-19 and the dangers it poses. It may seem out of reach during such uncertain times, but let’s get 2,600 pledges of $26 to support the WHO and the other organizations of the Run to Reach project! Not running? Your contribution is still more than welcome!
“Amazing! Where can I sign up?”
From today until the day of the race, please use this form to sign up and tell me where and why you’ll be running. I’m looking forward to hearing all of your stories! And don’t forget to post about your experience on social media with the hashtag #R2RVirtualMarathon, and tag @runtoreach on Instagram. Plus, share this with your friends: I’m hoping to see at least 500 runners from 100 countries, so let everyone you know join in on the fun—all for a good cause!
I’m so excited to see how the world runs virtually on May 24th!
